Herts Careline’s award-winning assistive technology service gives users the freedom and confidence to retain their independence in their own home. Assistive technology, such as community alarms and telecare services, can provide much needed reassurance for users and their friends, families, and carers, as they know help is on hand at the press of a button, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now in its 41st year of service, Herts Careline currently provides support for around 16,000 people across Hertfordshire and surrounding areas and takes around 1,500 calls a day - at least one third of these are life critical emergencies.

Howz is a smart home system designed to help older people stay independent for longer. Howz works because for older people a change in daily routine can signal a health and well-being, and a change in daily routine can be detected from sensors in their home environment. Howz learns a person's daily routine and uses this to detect short term anomalies and long term changes. Howz can access data from many sources, including mobiles, tablets, smart meters, smart home sensors, medical and fitness devices.
