Outcomes - Smart homes and the future of social care

Smart home technology promises to transform social care and independent living among disabled and older people. Recently, the APPG for Assistive Technology gathered parliamentarians, health and social care professionals, smart home and assistive technology providers and charities for a roundtable to discuss the potential of smart technologies to upgrade services and improve lives.

The meeting marked the launch of the workstream exploring the role of technology in social care and independent living. The discussion took place as the Department for Health and Social Care released the Prevention Green Paper and promised to publish the long-awaited Adult Social Care Green Paper.

The hope is that the outcomes will help shape the development of the new workstream, and inform the APPG's valuable work to impact future policy.

TSA fully supports the APPG for AT and its exploration of technology supporting social care; we are keen to contribute to the strong message that individual outcomes can be supported through enabling technology, as well as smart technology and data analytics supporting professionals to make informed decisions about how best to meet peoples’ needs across the whole care spectrum.
